Emil Dauncey: “I see a country aware of what is happening” VSC UK member in Venezuela
In the UK specifically in Norfolk a group of teachers is organizing itself with the objective of telling the truth about the advances of the Bolivarian Revolution.
At the moment and as an initiative to divulge and propose a series of projects, English Teacher Emil Dauncey is in Caracas, visiting the barrios and getting into contact with various social organizations.
Aporrea.org: Emil, what is the purpose of your visit to Caracas?
Emil: I am proposing several projects, the first of which is to set up solidarity campaigns in Norfolk. We are trying to organize a group to initiate a debate about the reality of Venezuela. The second project we want to do is to build links between Venezuelan and British youngsters and children since we believe that children are less indoctrinated with capitalist values and are able to appreciate cultural interchange and are able to learn and see things in a different light. The third project is to develop workshops to show the reality of Venezuela since here we can learn many things and apply them in our country. Another type of workshop we want to set up is with the support of other English teachers is to teach English so that communities can learn to transmit messages about the revolution with their own voice, in English, to other countries. We want to teach English freely without incorporating cultural, social and economic values which are usually imposed on us.
Aporrea.org: How was this initiative born and where do you live?
Emil: I’m an English teacher who was interested in knowing what is happening in Venezuela and in my country we organize workshops to raise awareness about Human Rights, Social Justice amongst young people. We try to get children to think critically and become aware. From that point onwards we try to get people to see reality for what it is.
Aporrea.org: What else are you planning to do?
Emil: Upon returning to England we will have a meeting and I will show photos of everything I did in Venezuela. I am going to show some films and documentaries and invite the public in general. Our campaign is very active and we have very good relations with British and Venezuelan trade unions, that is the UNT.
Aporrea.org: In the two weeks you have been in Venezuela what have you seen and felt in the street?
Emil: What I see is a country which has awoken and is aware of what is happening. Here there is a moral sense of awareness which I have not seen in any other country in the world.
