Readers will recall Time magazine’s disgraceful decision to nominate “You” – i.e. the general public - as person of the year after Chavez won in the on-line vote with 36%. Another poll in the Colombian weekly Semana has yielded the same results hidden by the corporate rag Time.
The readers of Semana elected Chavez as international person of the year with 3432 votes followed by Chilean President, Michelle Bachalet, with 1016 votes. Semana belongs to the Colombian corporate press and has been a long time critic of Chavez and the Bolivarian Revolution. However, in contrast to Time’s gutter ethics and disrespect for its readers’ opinions, Semana has published the results of its on-line poll and faithfully reflected readers’ opinions.
The full results are:
1. Hugo Chávez, 3.432.
2. Michelle Bachelet, 1.016.
3. Zinedine Zidane, 900.
4. Hillary Clinton, 506.
5. Roger Federer, 502.
6. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad 329.
7. George Bush, 318.
8. Madonna, 150.
9. Kim Jong, 121.
10. Andrés López Obrador, 119.
Chavez was also elected Semana’s international person of the year in for 2005
